The New Holland-Middletown Cub Scout Pack 3999 recently bridged two members from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts at a Blue and Gold celebration. Cody Davison and Andrew Kuhlman, who both earned their Arrow of Light badges, have joined NH-M Boy Scout Troop 1999. At the celebration, each of the Cub Scouts in the pack was awarded badges and pins earned during the year. The NH-M boys, along with others around the world, are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Scouting. The NH-M Scouts typically meet the first, second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

Students from Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln won first and third place in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263 patriotism essay contest. The theme was "Safeguarding of our Liberties." Four prizes were awarded in the countywide contest. Pictured are Kathryn Arneaud, third place; Marlene Schrader, Americanism chair for American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263; and Jim Sielaff, first place. The students received a certificate and monetary prize. Jim's essay has been submitted for consideration at the district level.

She has won numerous awards, ranging from Spanish III Student-of-the-Year to basketball awards, including most recently being named this area's Student Athlete-of-the-Month. She was also recently named Logan County Student-of-the-Month.

She is a National Honor Society member, and through this organization she has volunteered in the community through service projects including Make a Difference Day and the ALS Walk.

Ashley plans to attend college, where she will continue to play basketball and will major in physical therapy.

The Senior-of-the-Month program is co-sponsored by Johnson's Food Center and Mount Pulaski Pharmacy. Monthly winners receive $100 savings bonds and are eligible to compete for the $1,000 Senior-of-the-Year award.

Mrs. Jean Handlin came and presented Carroll Catholic School with a flag that has been flown at the South Pole. Her granddaughter is currently stationed at one of the bases in Antarctica, where she is "wintered in" for the next nine months. From that base, she sent a flag that was flown for a day and a certificate verifying that it was. Carroll School is one of the very few schools in the world to have such a treasured item.

Lincoln Park District is looking for people interested in starting a pickle ball league. Pickle ball is similar to badminton but played on a smaller-scaled tennis court. The game uses a unique combination of ping-pong, badminton and tennis skills. Generally played as doubles, with two people per side of the court, it is quick action, light exercise and a lot of fun. Interested players should call Tillie Griffin at 732-8046 or Roy at 732-8770.
