[March 05, 2010]  (AP)  Snow was expected in the Rockies on Friday, while another wet day was forecast for the West Coast. But the rest of the county was expected to see mild weather.

HardwareA low pressure system that kicked up snow over the Intermountain West was forecast to continue moving eastward over the central Rockies and push light snow into the central High Plains. As much as 2 inches could fall in Utah, while parts of Colorado could see up to 5 inches.

Warm and breezy conditions were expected as the system approached the Plains. The central Plains could see high temperatures in the mid-40s with winds gusts of up to 29 mph. Strong winds also were expected in the southern Plains, which could see highs in the 60s.

Meanwhile, a low pressure system spinning in the Pacific Ocean was expected to push another cold front onshore. The system was forecast to move south along the West Coast, beginning in the Pacific Northwest and strengthening by the time it reached southern California. Mostly cloudy skies were expected over most of the coast with highs in the 50s.

In the East, high pressure dominating the central U.S. was expected to move east and cover most of the eastern half of the country. The pressure moved in this week when a persistent low pressure system spinning offshore finally moved further east into the Atlantic Ocean.

Sunshine was expected from the Mississippi River to the East Coast, with highs in 50s in the North and 60s in the Southeast.

In the South, strong winds could allow for below-freezing wind chills in some areas, and below-zero overnight lows were expected to produce frost in most of Florida.

On Thursday, temperatures in the Lower 48 states ranged from a low of minus 1 degree at Wakefield, Mich., to a high of 83 degrees at Pecos, Texas.
