[March 05, 2010]  The Logan County Republican Central Committee unanimously voted in Dave Bender as its new county chairman at the Republican county convention this week. Bender succeeded Jeff Short, who chose not to seek re-election as the county chairman.

Bender, 47, of Lincoln, was unopposed.

Other officers elected were Mick Turner, Lincoln, first vice chairman; Melanie Blankenship, Atlanta, second vice chairman; Jim Wessbecher, Lincoln, third vice chairman. In addition, the Republican precinct committeemen elected Chuck Conzo as party treasurer and Darren Scott Cooper as secretary.

Bender will announce committee chair appointments at a later date.

The new county chairman also stressed the party's priorities as appointing committeemen to vacant precincts, working hard for the statewide Republican ticket, including Sen. Bill Brady's campaign for governor, and establishing regular communication with voters.

Bender has a long history of local, state and national campaigns, including former President George H.W. Bush, Sen. Bob Dole's campaign for president, both of former Gov. Jim Edgar's campaigns for governor, and over 30 state and local races where he served as either campaign chairman, campaign adviser, campaign manager or treasurer.

Bender is married to Carla Bender, the former Logan County circuit clerk and now 4th District Appellate Court clerk, and has two children: Alex, a freshman at Lincoln Community High School, and Jeris, a sixth-grade student at West Lincoln-Broadwell.
