[March 18, 2010]  Lincoln College and the Lincoln Elks 914 Country Club are joining forces to help local kids learn the game of golf. For the fourth consecutive year, the two organizations have partnered to bring a national skill development program called Hook a Kid on Golf to the area. The program, which is administered by the National Alliance for Youth Sports, introduces youngsters to the game of golf.

Children enrolled in the program will receive six free instruction sessions where they will learn the fundamentals of golf. Sessions are scheduled for June 2, 7, 9, 14, 16 and 21 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Elks Country Club. Each participant will also receive a starter set of golf clubs, a golf shirt, golf balls and other supplies such as an easy-to-understand rule book.

Youths selected for the program are able to participate free of charge thanks to the generous support of the Elks Charitable Trust Foundation, Lincoln College, and the state and national Hook a Kid on Golf foundations. To be eligible, youngsters must have never played golf, do not own a set of golf clubs, and be between 8 and 15 years of age.

"There are so many life lessons that come from the game of golf. Lincoln College and the Elks Charitable Trust are excited about the opportunity to host this program again and introduce more children to this amazing sport." said Jeff Nelson, the site coordinator for the local Hook a Kid on Golf program and an application support specialist for Lincoln College. He added, "Most kids have unlimited opportunities to play baseball, basketball and football, but very few get the opportunity to learn about golf."

The program kicks off June 2 and runs on Mondays and Wednesdays until June 21. For more information or register, contact Nelson at 217-732-3155 or jnelson@lincolncollege.edu.
