[April 01, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Prosecutors say an 81-year-old woman pulled a revolver from her fanny pack and tried to shoot the wife of a Grammy-winning jazz pianist near the elevator of their New York City condominium.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says Maria Cartagena pulled out the gun Tuesday night and fired at the 73-year-old wife of Eddie Palmieri. The bullet grazed Iraida Palmieri's scalp.

Cartagena pleaded not guilty Wednesday to attempted murder. Her attorney says he can't comment.

The nine-time Grammy-winning jazz star says his wife is resting comfortably but that it is a difficult time for his family.
