[May 06, 2010]  DETROIT (AP) -- Hundreds of fans have begun to enter Comerica Park to pay their final respects to Ernie Harwell.

A casket holding Harwell wearing his signature fedora is positioned just inside the stadium's front gate, near a life-sized statue of the cherished Hall of Fame broadcaster, several large portraits and memorial bouquets.

Across the street, the marquee of the famed Fox Theatre reads: "Thanks for the memories Ernie." Other entertainment venues are carrying similar messages.

Harwell died Tuesday of cancer at age 92. The Tigers have said the viewing will continue until the last fan has said goodbye.

Family members will hold a private funeral service.
