Resolution recognizing Lincoln College men's basketball team

[May 06, 2010]  Below is a copy of a Logan County Board resolution recognizing the Lincoln College men's basketball team:

WHEREAS, Lincoln College's mission is to help students develop their potential, and competitive sports provides an opportunity to do that, and

WHEREAS, the basketball program at Lincoln College has a winning tradition with the fifth most men's basketball wins in the history of the National Junior College Athletic Association, and

WHEREAS, Lincoln College has won its basketball conference championship nine times in the last 12 years, and

WHEREAS, in the last eight years Lincoln College has reached the NJCAA national tournament five times, including a third-place finish in 2009, and

WHEREAS, the Lincoln College Lynx won the NJCAA Division II National Championship on March 19, 2010, defeating Cincinnati State Community College 71-60, and

WHEREAS, game leaders for Lincoln were Kiel Turpin who scored 21 points, DeMarius Sumrell who scored 18 points and Kenyon Smith who scored 11 points, and

WHEREAS, Kiel Turpin was named most valuable player, DeMarius Sumrell and Kenyon Smith were named to the all-tournament team and Louie Schonauer received the Fred Pohlman Sportsmanship Award, and

WHEREAS, Lincoln College Men's Basketball Coach Kirk Whiteman was named Coach of the Year at the national tournament,

NOW THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED that the Logan County Board congratulate the Lincoln College Men's Basketball Team and coaches Kirk Whiteman, Cory Farmer, Ryan Cross, and Chad Harmon on their team's achievement and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.
