Accidents

Vehicle versus home

Accident occurred May 7 at 11:54 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Kankakee, just off Omaha.

  • Harp, Brenda D., 48-year-old female, Lincoln; 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Harp reported that she was traveling southbound on North Kankakee, stopped at the intersection with Omaha Street, then proceeded to turn left onto Omaha. As she commenced the turn, her left arm went numb. She said she tried to stop but apparently blacked out briefly. When she awoke, her car was stopped, having stuck a residence and an outdoor central air conditioning unit. Harp was taken by Logan County Paramedics to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, where she was later released.

Vehicle versus building

Accident occurred May 7 at 3:33 p.m. at Famous Liquors, 708 Keokuk.

  • Snow, Margie L., 79-year-old female, Atlanta; 1999 Ford Contour

Snow reported that she was pulling into a parking space in the Famous Liquors parking lot when her foot slipped from the brake and onto the accelerator. Her car drove over the parking block, striking some vending machines outside the building. The machines were then shoved into a large window on the front of the building and consequently knocked over a liquor display inside the building, breaking several bottles in the process. Snow was taken by Logan County Paramedics to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Parking problems at Walmart

Accident occurred May 6 at 9:09 a.m.

  • Roos, Marlin W., 75-year-old male, Lincoln; 1997 Isuzu Hombre

  • Awe, Jo Ann, 79-year-old female, Lincoln; 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Roos said that he was attempting to back out of a parking space at Walmart and did not see that Awe was passing by behind him. Consequently he backed into the front of her vehicle.

Hit-and-run at Walmart

Accident reported May 6 at 4:52 p.m.

  • Kenney, Brent D., 38-year-old male, Lincoln; 2000 Ford Econoline

Kenney reported that on May 5 he was parked in the parking lot of Walmart, where he was apparently stuck by an unidentified vehicle.

Kenney said he did not notice the damage until the next day, when he discovered that the passenger-side door of the van would not open.

Jeep versus semi at Beck's

Accident occurred May 4 at 12:33 p.m. in the parking lot of Beck's, 1008 Heitmann Drive.

  • Cevene, Dennis G., 57-year-old male, Mason City; 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

  • Holford, Michael E., 44-year-old male, Chatham; 2007 Freightliner

Cevene said he was backing out of a parking spot at the Beck's Convenience Store. He said he saw the semi parked behind and to the right of him, but he didn't see that the lift gate was down and extending beyond the back of the truck. He said that as he proceeded to back up, he saw the gate, but it was too late to get fully stopped.

Deer contributes to accident on Lincoln Parkway

Accident occurred May 4 at 2:52 a.m.

  • Roberts, Steven D., 38-year-old male, Lincoln; 1997 Dodge Caravan

Roberts said he was southbound on Lincoln Parkway near the curve when he saw a deer standing in the road. He swerved to avoid the animal but hit a guardrail, then passed through the grass median and was on Route 121 before the vehicle came to a full stop.

Roberts was ticketed for operating a vehicle without insurance.

Hit-and-run at Family Medical Center

Accident was reported on May 3 at 11:30 a.m.

  • Doty, Rose Marie, 61-year-old female, Latham; 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 4x2 pickup

Doty reported that she arrived early in the day for a doctor's appointment, leaving her vehicle unattended in the parking lot. When she returned, she noticed that the passenger-side mirror was folded in and cracked.

Lincoln Police Department reports for Monday, May 10

  • Cook, Shaun M., 22-year-old male, of Clinton, arrested May 8 in the 1000 block of Seventh Street on a DeWitt County warrant for failure to appear. Bond was set at $5,000, 10 percent

  • Frye, Ryan J., 19-year-old male, of Lincoln, arrested May 8 at his residence on Class 3 charge of aggravated battery. Evidence taken from the scene: pants, shirt, socks and sandals.

  • Schaefer, Donna M., 46-year-old female, of Lincoln, arrested May 7 at her residence on Class A charge of domestic battery.

Logan County Sheriff's Department reports for Monday, May 10

  • Baker, Shawn L., 31-year-old male, of Riverton, arrested May 9 on Route 54 at 1100th Avenue on Class A charge of driving with license revoked. Vehicle was towed from the scene.

  • Curry, John R., 25-year-old male, of Atlanta, arrested May 7 at Casey's General Store in Atlanta on a Logan County warrant for failure to appear. Bond was set at $3,000, 10 percent.

  • Smith, Dakota F., 18-year-old male, of Greenview, arrested May 7 at 1550th Street and 500th Avenue, rural west Lincoln, on Class A charge of driving under the influence of drugs, Class C charge of possession of cannabis less than 2.5 grams and Class A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Vehicle was towed from the scene.

  • Totman, Elizabeth, 38-year-old female, of Lincoln, arrested May 7 near her residence on Class A charge of domestic battery.

Illinois State Police report for Monday, May 10

  • Laongoen, Pheny, 26-year-old female, of Sun Prairie, Wis., arrested May 8 on Interstate 55 in the northbound lanes at mile marker 130. Warrant arrest for charges pertaining to driving with license suspended and speeding. Bond was set at $300 cash. Vehicle was towed from the scene.
