Lincoln College-Normal offering 1st online bachelor's degree in logistics & supply chain management

[May 19, 2010]  NORMAL -- Lincoln College-Normal has begun enrolling students in its first online degree program -- a bachelor's degree in logistics and supply chain management. While the college has offered many courses virtually, this is the first bachelor's degree program to be taught entirely online by the college.

The new bachelor's degree is the result of a special agreement with Illinois Central College in Peoria. The formal agreement between the two institutions is commonly referred to as a "2+2 agreement." It allows ICC students who have earned an Associate of Applied Science in materials and logistics management to enroll as students at Lincoln College-Normal in the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program in logistics and supply chain management.

In addition to the convenience and flexibility of an online program, one of the other major advantages for students who enroll in a 2+2 program is that it helps to streamline the admissions process when applying to baccalaureate institutions. Because the program is a collaborative effort, it also helps students to avoid enrolling in duplicate courses.

The agreement, which was formalized in April, was the culmination of discussions and a great deal of effort by Matt Herzog, ICC associate dean, and Jeffrey Kratz, dean of academic affairs for Lincoln College-Normal.

When asked about the significance of offering a bachelor's program online and the agreement with ICC, Kratz said: "While two unique institutions, we share a common desire to help our students realize their goal of a greater measure of success through education. Both institutions also have a common interest in meeting the needs of adult learners and other nontraditional students. By entering into this agreement and by offering the program completely online, we are able to remove even more barriers between students and their goal of a baccalaureate degree."
