[May 25, 2010]  (AP)  Multiple weather features were forecast to bring wet weather to most of the nation Tuesday.

A low pressure system would continue tracking northeastward from the northern Rockies and northern Plains, moving into central Canada. The system would create a strong cold front that would extend southward down the Plains. Scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected to develop along this front, as it had a history of producing severe weather. Periods of heavy rain, damaging winds and hail were anticipated over the upper Midwest as well as the northern, central and southern Plains. Rainfall totals would range from a quarter to a half an inch, and up to an inch in areas of thunderstorm development. The northern Rockies were expected to see another day of light snow at higher elevations. Highs would remain in the 60s and 70s on the backside of the front, while ahead of the front, the Midwest would see another day in the 80s.

A ridge of high pressure lingering over the East Coast would allow for another sunny and warm day. However, a low pressure system moving northward from the Mid-Atlantic Ocean would approach the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic States. Flow around this system would push some moisture onshore, kicking up light and scattered showers over the southeastern U.S.

In the West, another low pressure system would move over the Pacific Northwest from the Gulf of Alaska. This system would push a moist cold front through California, triggering scattered rain showers throughout the day. A cool and dreary day was expected over the West Coast, with highs in the 50s and 60s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of 21 degrees at Wolf Creek Pass, Colo., to a high of 96 degrees at Tallahassee, Fla.
