A low pressure system in the north was continuing to push a cold front through the Midwest, over the Great Lakes and into New England. As this system had used up most of its energy, it would continue kicking up scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Midwest, Ohio River Valley and New England. Severe weather was also possible along this front, as it had produced strong winds, damaging hail and heavy rain. Most areas would see a quarter to a half-inch, with up to an inch in areas of thunderstorm development. The region was expected to remain in the 80s again Thursday. The Plains would also remain warm and sunny with highs in the 80s, as high pressure built over the central U.S.

In the West, a strong low pressure system would move over the Pacific Northwest and create some active weather over the West Coast. This system would trigger scattered rain showers with some areas seeing between a half and an inch of rain. This would also kick up some high elevation snow showers over the Cascades and Sierras with total accumulation between 1-3 inches. Energy associated with this system was capable of producing some thunderstorms, some of which may kick up some small hail. Temperatures would remain on the cooler side, with highs in the 50s and 60s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 26 degrees at Pinedale, Wyo., to a high of 99 degrees at Windsor Locks, Conn.
