Kayaker's body found

Send a link to a friend

[May 27, 2010]  The body of a Waynesville man who went missing while kayaking with friends on Saturday has been found in Salt Creek near Middletown.

Search crews including Logan County Emergency Management Agency, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and agencies from surrounding counties had been searching since late Saturday evening to no avail until this morning.

Although a extensive length of the creek was under search, the body was within a mile of where friends last saw the kayaker before he headed around a bend in the creek.

A 10-foot logjam that was believed to have caused the man to lose control of his kayak was finally broken up. It was after this that the man's body was discovered.

Heavy downpours yesterday had slowed the work until this morning.
