[May 28, 2010]  The Lincoln & Logan County Development Partnership assisted in the coordination of an Illinois Pavilion at Windpower 2010 in Dallas. This was the second year in a row that Joel Smiley, executive director of the Lincoln & Logan County Development Partnership, participated in the trade show. Smiley also served on a steering committee coordinating a regional effort with the Illinois Development Council, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Illinois Finance Authority, Illinois Wind Working Group at Illinois State University, and Illinois Wind Energy Association

This year the partnership personally met with 26 manufacturing companies and wind developers actually looking for either new locations or new warehouse and distribution centers. Some of the companies on this list include international companies from China and Germany. At least one of the companies is a U.S. Fortune 100 company actively looking for warehouse space.

During Windpower 2009 in Chicago last year, Smiley met with 19 companies actively looking for sites. Five of these companies actually came to Logan County for site visits. In 2010, the partnership will make contact with all 26 leads in the expectation some will make site visits to Logan County.

It is worth noting that Windpower 2010 also attracted six governors and former President George Bush.

"During my 10-plus years in economic development, I have attended dozens of trade shows. Windpower 2009 and Windpower 2010 were two of the top shows in terms of active leads that I have ever experienced," Smiley said.

The Lincoln & Logan County Development Partnership is the economic development agency for Logan County, serving businesses, government and residents of the county. The partnership’s mission is to enhance the economic prosperity and quality of life in Logan County.
