Coroner releases preliminary report on Salt Creek tragedy

[May 28, 2010]  Logan County Coroner Robert Thomas announced that the body of Adam A. Stapleton, 32, of Waynesville, DeWitt County, was found at 8:50 a.m. Thursday, May 27.

InsuranceMr. Stapleton was reported missing on Saturday while he was kayaking Salt Creek. He was found in the creek by search and rescue personnel from Menard County.

Forensic pathologist Dr. John Ralston will perform the autopsy in Springfield on Friday morning. The preliminary findings from the autopsy should be available Friday afternoon.

The family has chosen Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton.

Late Friday morning Thomas stated: "I have received the preliminary autopsy report from Dr. Ralston. He believes that this is a drowning. There were no signs of trauma. Be aware that this is the preliminary and is subject to change."
