[November 01, 2010]  The Lincoln College men's soccer team continues to roll, winning the Region 24 tournament for the first time in school history. The team is one win away from a trip to the national tournament.

InsuranceThe Lynx (15-1-4) defeated Illinois Central (13-4-1) in penalty kicks Saturday in the Region 24 championship game. The game was an exciting match that was held to a 0-0 draw.

ICC had a great chance in the first half when a Lincoln player dragged an ICC forward down in the box, giving ICC a penalty kick. However, Jarod Thomas, Region 24 goalkeeper of the year, saved the penalty kick and kept the score 0-0. Lincoln had two great chances in the first half, but ICC's keeper made a great save, and Stiven Salinas was denied a goal by the post.

The second half and overtime saw both teams having solid chances, but it was the battle of the keepers and both were able to keep the ball out of the net. Lincoln's Thomas ended the match with six saves, and Javier Torres ended the match with nine in PKs. Lincoln went on to win 3-1, giving them their first-ever region championship!

Lincoln will host MCC-Blue River (11-7-1) on Saturday at noon at Lincoln College, with the winner advancing to the national tournament.
