The all-in-one fundraiser will help all three groups continue their
work in the community. Geoff Ladd, director of the Abraham Lincoln
Tourism Bureau of Logan County and also the local Route 66
Foundation, said that work at the historic Mill made excellent progress this
past summer but there is still more to do.
Although volunteers do much of the work, there are still
materials to purchase, plus the costs of plumbing and installing a
heating-cooling system that requires funds to complete the work.
"We've had a lot of donations from businesses and individuals
over the past few years, including from The Danner Trust, Larry Van
Bibber, the Route 66 Association of Illinois and our local
volunteers, and I'd like to thank everyone," said Ladd.
The Knights also have multiple programs in place that could use a
cash infusion, including maintaining the facility to keep the high
standards of a place the community can be proud to use for their
special events.
The local chapter of the Special Olympics also will be a
recipient of funds that will stay right here to support Logan
County's own program.
The evening will begin at 5 with all the hamburgers, hot dogs and
fries you can eat. There will be ice tea and lemonade, and the
Knights will have a cash bar available.
At 6:30, Lincolnite Mike Fak will do an hour of stand-up comedy
called "Living Life... without the owner's manual."
Then at 8 p.m., one of the area's premier bands, Vintage Daze,
will play their classic rock music till the evening ends.
Besides good food and entertainment, there will be a 50-25-25
drawing, with 50 percent going to the winner and 25 percent each
going to Save the Mill and Special Olympics.
Ladd said that many businesses and individuals are helping to
defray costs, thus allowing the funds to go to the three groups.

"The Knights are helping with the hall, IGA is helping with the
food, Vintage Daze is defraying much of their cost, and Doug Board,
Mark May and other volunteers are giving their time in the kitchen.
Plus, State Bank of Lincoln is helping by being a prime sponsor of
the night," Ladd said.
Ladd said one more sponsor is being sought so that all expenses
at the event are met, allowing all the funds to go to the three
groups. Anyone interested should contact him at 732-8687.
Ladd said individuals or groups should call the tourism office to
reserve tickets, which can then be paid for at the door that
evening. The event is at 217 N. Limit St. in Lincoln. Individuals can
also go to
savethemill@hotmail.com to reserve tickets.
Ladd also said that groups of eight or more can reserve a table
so they can all sit together for what looks to be growing into a
packed house.
"We have 80 of the tickets already spoken for, and we haven't
officially got the word out," said Ladd, who stressed that those
interested in going should stop by the office or at the Knights of
Columbus to purchase their tickets or call to reserve them. "We
could have a sellout," he added.
