[November 03, 2010]  WEST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- Police said a brotherly argument turned violent when a West Haven man shot his younger brother with a BB gun and swung a sword at him, and his brother responded by hitting him with a chair.

Authorities said 54-year-old John Lassiter and 53-year-old Irving Lassiter are facing assault and other charges. John is scheduled to appear in court later this month, Irving next month.

Police said the argument began Thursday night at the home the brothers share. As things escalated, the older Lassiter fired several shots from a BB gun into his younger brother's chest, until the gun jammed, then swung a sword at him.

Authorities said that's when the younger brother threw a chair that shattered over his older brother.

It was unclear if either man had hired an attorney.
