Cantor: Election gives Republicans 'second chance'

[November 03, 2010]  WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Republican Whip Eric Cantor says the GOP's takeover of the House gives the party "a second chance, a golden opportunity" to prove itself to skeptical voters.

The Virginia congressman tells CBS's "The Early Show" that Tuesday's elections showed that the American people "want a government that listens to them again."

Cantor reiterated that Republicans would like to roll back President Barack Obama's health care law, but said fixing the country's economic problems must be the top priority.

He acknowledged that this year's electoral results were more likely a rejection of the Obama administration agenda than an embrace of GOP policies. Cantor said, "There isn't a lot of confidence focused on Republicans yet."
