[November 03, 2010]  The Lincoln College board of trustees approved a measure to extend the contract of Dr. Jon Astroth for another year. Astroth was named the 20th president of the college last spring.

When announcing the board's decision to extend Astroth's appointment, Dr. Ted Allison, chair of the board of trustees said, "We could not be more delighted at the prospect of Jon being with us for more than one year."

Over a 34-year career in academia, Astroth has served on numerous state and national boards related to higher education and was named a visiting professor to Northeast Normal University in Changchun, Jilin, China. He earned a Ph.D. in educational administration at Illinois State University.

Lincoln College was founded in 1865 as Lincoln University. It is the only college or university named for Abraham Lincoln during his lifetime. The college expanded to the Bloomington-Normal area in 1979.

In recent months, college administrators have announced new programs that greatly expand the college's reach, including a new online bachelor's degree completion program in supply chain and logistics management, and the expansion of the accelerated bachelor's degree completion program known as ABE to the Illinois Valley Community College campus in Oglesby.
