[November 04, 2010]  A catch phrase often heard when the Logan County Board needs to look into something is, "Ask Jo." And when difficult things are accomplished: "What would we do without Jo?"

With 20 years' knowledge and experience as the Logan County Board's administrative secretary, JoAnne Marlin has announced her retirement.

Marlin has actually served the county in two separate stints and in several capacities for an accumulated 30 years of service.

She began by working for Earl Madigan in the circuit clerk's office.

She left Madigan's office to spend 12 years at home raising her children.

After moving to Lincoln, she returned to work at Family Medical, then Economy Fire and Casualty, followed by a period working in a couple of stations at Myers Industries.

She returned to the place she liked best, the Logan County Courthouse, in March of 1991. At first she divided her time, working part time for then-County Clerk Pete Frantz and part-time as the county board secretary. Unable to give enough time to the work in Franz's office, she shifted to full time as board secretary in June of that year.

Marlin has set Dec. 31 as her last day in order to allow time to train her replacement.

See "County board bids adieu to two members," where Marlin is pictured with Paul Gleason during the change of board membership after the 2006 election. Then-retiring board chairman Dale Voyles said: "My two years as chairman went by in a hurry because of JoAnne. JoAnne was my left leg, my right leg, my left arm and my right arm as chairman. She does it all."
