[November 05, 2010]  GENEVA (AP) -- Three Latvian helicopter crew working for the United Nations have been kidnapped in western Sudan, the U.N. World Food Program said Friday.

Spokeswoman Emilia Casella told The Associated Press that the three men were seized Thursday in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur province.

She said they were contracted to the U.N. Humanitarian Air Service which delivers aid to poverty-stricken Darfur.

"They are all Latvian nationals and are helicopter crewmen. We have no more information," Casella said.

She declined to say whether the global body has received any demands for the men's release or knows who their captors are.
