[November 05, 2010]  (AP)  A storm system was forecast to move its main area of precipitation off the eastern seaboard in the early morning Friday leaving only lingering showers in the East.

THardwarehe jet stream trough responsible for the storm that brought heavy rain to the region Thursday was expected to usher very cold air into the region, changing some of the rain showers over to snow. Snow accumulations were not expected to be heavy, but an inch or more could fall in some of the coldest locations of the interior East.

Elsewhere in the country, placid weather was forecast to dominate, with almost no chance for precipitation west of the Mississippi. An area of high pressure would continue its hold on the Plains, pushing any wet weather well to the north. The same high would also help keep an approaching storm system in the Pacific from pushing into the West Coast on Friday.

Although no precipitation was expected along the Pacific coast, the weather was expected to be markedly different from the Indian summer conditions that have prevailed for most of the week. Temperatures were forecast to be much cooler Friday, especially on the coast, where onshore breezes would pick up once again and send cool marine air ashore.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 13 degrees at Shirley Basin, Wyo., to a high of 101 degrees at Riverside, Calif.
