Kirkwood trailed by 13 points early in the
second half before
cutting the Lynx lead to 46-43 on Michael Weber's 3-pointer with 9
minutes, 45 seconds
left in the game. Just over 3 minutes later, Lincoln led 53-43 after Tylon Deal's 3-pointer. Coach Kirk Whiteman
assessed his team's play: "We did a great job of making good
decisions, especially our guards. We only had eight turnovers at
halftime and held them to 21 points. A great defensive effort by us.
We were able to push the lead to 15 right before half, but we had
trouble guarding their big post players and gave up an old-fashion
three-point play with 1.3 seconds in the half." Kiel Turpin led
Lincoln (2-0) with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Deal scored 16
points. West Dawson added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Lynx,
who will play the Hannibal-LaGrange junior varsity in the classic at
1 p.m. Saturday. Brennan Cougill led Kirkwood (1-1) with 14 points
and 12 rebounds. The Eagles will play the host Trail Blazers at 3
p.m. Saturday. ___ Lincoln 65, Kirkwood 56 KIRKWOOD (1-1)
