[November 09, 2010]  Residents of the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area community and community organizations with an interest in the development of the management plan for the National Heritage Area are encouraged to attend an upcoming workshop to help craft the best management plan possible to submit to the secretary of the interior.

The meeting will take place Dec.1 at the Lincoln Heritage Museum at Lincoln College from 3 to 5 p.m. RSVPs are encouraged and may be made by calling the museum at 217-732-3155, ext. 295.

Heritage Strategies is the consultant selected to work in partnership with the Heritage Area to develop the management plan. The purpose of the workshops will be to outline the planning process for the management plan, review the consultant team's initial observations and hear from potential partners about issues and opportunities.

The Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area, approved by Congress in 2008, and under the management of the Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition, calls for up to $15 million in federal grants to be made available for preservation and development of activities and sites related to Abraham Lincoln in central Illinois. The funding will allow communities in the 42 counties of central Illinois to preserve, interpret and promote the heritage and culture of the area, in the context of Abraham Lincoln's life in Illinois.

Each community has a unique story to tell and unique places for visitors to enjoy that can provide a complete look at Lincoln's life in Illinois. This is THE opportunity for community leaders and business owners in the city of Lincoln and Logan County to come together to chart a plan to submit to be a part of the Lincoln National Heritage Area management plan. This might be the only opportunity to do so. In the end, the communities involved will benefit from job creation and new tourism revenue, as well as a renewed sense of pride about their role in Lincoln's heritage
