Mildred Taft

[November 10, 2010]  LINCOLN -- Mildred M. "Millie" Taft, 88, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at 9:40 a.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre.

She was cremated. Burial of her cremains will be in Danville National Cemetery, Danville, at a later date.

Arrangements were made by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home of Lincoln.

Mrs. Taft retired from West Lincoln-Broadwell Grade School, where she taught first grade for over 25 years.

She was born Jan. 17, 1922, in Bradford. Her parents were William Morris and Myrtle Marie Mielkey. She was raised by her mother and her stepfather, Bob Jones. She married J.R. Taft in December 1946 in Sheffield. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2008.

She is survived by one son, Scott (and Joy) Taft of Oro Valley, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by one sister.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Lin-tiquers, Illinois Education Association and Illinois Teachers' Retirement System.
