[November 15, 2010]  (AP)  Several areas of active weather were expected to develop throughout the nation Monday. In the East, two frontal boundaries were forecast to become the main weather features of the Eastern Seaboard.

A fewHardware light, patchy showers would develop along a weakening cold front as it trekked eastward through New York, Virginia and New England toward the Coast. More significant precipitation was expected along the southern portion of this system as a wave of low pressure combined with a surge of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Moderate showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms would be possible from Louisiana through the Tennessee Valley and the southern Appalachians. Rainfall totals may range from 1 to 3 inches in parts of southeast Louisiana, while areas of southeast Mississippi and central Alabama may experience heavier amounts of precipitation.

In the West, disturbances pushing across the Pacific Northwest and northern Intermountain West and a strong jet stream was forecast to maintain active weather across the northwestern interior. Light precipitation was expected to continue throughout the northern Intermountain West and Northern Rockies, with snowfall restricted to the higher elevations. The higher mountain areas may accumulate over 6 inches of snow.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of minus 9 degrees at Shirley Basin, Wyo., to a high of 85 degrees at Chatsworth, Calif.
