[November 17, 2010]  (AP)  Two major storms were forecast to bring bad weather to both of the nation's coasts Wednesday.

The most significant storm would most likely be one sending rain and some snow to the East. Low pressure began to track up the Appalachians on Tuesday and was expected to continue taking that path Wednesday, intensifying as it moves northward. The storm's heaviest rain would fall along its cold front, which was forecast to pass off the coast throughout the day, with rainfall of over an inch anticipated in some areas. Due to the westerly track of this storm, most locations would see only rain, but high elevations throughout the Appalachian Mountain chain as well as the Adirondacks may see snow.

The second storm, a large Pacific low, was expected to slam into the Canadian coast in the early morning hours of Wednesday. The storm would send heavy rain south into the Washington coastline. As the day progressed, rain and high-elevation snow was forecast to push southward into Oregon, possibly reaching northern California late in the evening.

While the coasts see an assault from stormy weather, the nation's interior was forecast to be generally quiet as high pressure built over the Plains. The western Plains would see warm weather to go along with clear skies, while the Mississippi Valley was expected to see colder temperatures as strong north winds drove Canadian air southward.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 2 degrees at Alamosa, Colo., to a high of 87 degrees at Vero Beach, Fla.
