[November 22, 2010]  URBANA (AP) -- Officials at the University of Illinois say four small academic units won't have to consolidate right now after a campus review team found no significant savings would be gained from the proposed mergers.

The News-Gazette in Champaign reported Saturday that campus administrators are urging the four units to share business services to cut costs. The units are the College of Media, School of Labor and Employment Relations, School of Social Work, and the Graduate School of Library Information Sciences.

Reviews do recommend that the College of Media continue discussions about reorganization. The school includes journalism, advertising, media and cinema studies, and other communications programs.

Administrators encourage the schools to investigate future mergers or consolidations as a long-term plan to protect the programs.
