Film director to be sentenced in wiretapping case

[October 04, 2010]  LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Federal prosecutors want a yearlong prison sentence for "Die Hard" director John McTiernan for lying during a Hollywood wiretapping investigation of private investigator Anthony Pellicano.

McTiernan is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in a Los Angeles federal courtroom. He pleaded guilty in July to two counts of making false statements to the FBI and one count of perjury for lying to a federal judge while trying to withdraw a guilty plea.

While prosecutors want the 59-year-old to serve a year in prison, his defense attorneys are seeking a three-year probation term.

Pellicano was convicted in 2008 of wiretapping film producer Charles Roven for McTiernan and of bugging the phones of celebrities and others to get information for clients. He was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.
