Met Opera singer Dolores Wilson dies in NJ at 82

[October 06, 2010]  ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (AP) -- Metropolitan Opera soprano and Broadway singer Dolores Wilson has died in New Jersey at age 82.

InsuranceWilson made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1954 in the title role of "Lucia di Lammermoor," the first of what would be 26 appearances. Her Broadway debut came in 1965, when she starred in the musical "The Yearling."

Wilson was born in Philadelphia. Most recently she lived at the Lillian Booth Actors Fund Home in Englewood, N.J.

Home administrator Jordan Strohl says Wilson died there Sept. 28. Strohl doesn't know the cause of her death.
