In their first action of the day, the Lady Lynx saw their
seven-match winning streak snapped by a hard-fought, five-set loss
to Shawnee Community College. LC got off to a slow start in set one,
dropping it 25-20. The team returned to form in sets two and three,
taking them by scores of 25-16 and 25-18. Set four saw SCC come
alive to take a late lead and survive a Lincoln comeback attempt to
win the set 25-23. In the deciding set to 15, Shawnee jumped
out to an 8-2 advantage and eventually took the set 15-9. In the
second match of the day for Lincoln, the Lady Lynx returned to the
winner's circle by defeating Rend Lake in straight sets 25-20,
25-19, 25-14. With the win, Lincoln maintained their above .500
record as they improved to 16-15 on the season.

LC coach Mark Tippett commented: "The Shawnee match was one where
we were made to pay for early lapses in focus and effort. We dug
ourselves deep holes in the first and final sets that we were not
able to overcome.
"In between those sections of the match we played some very good
volleyball. Our passing and defense allowed us to keep SCC off
balance most of the time, but we let them off the hook in set four
and it cost us.
"Against Rend Lake we stayed aggressive and used our height
advantage to take control of the net. The match was a positive way
to end the day because the entire team was able to contribute to the
win."
LC will host Robert Morris College on Wednesday evening.

DIXON -- The Lincoln College cross country team resumed
competition this weekend at the Sauk Valley Invitational. The men’s
race was won by sophomore Jeff Wooldridge, who ran the five-mile
course in a time of 27:18.
Coach Brian Herron said: "This is a very special day for Jeff. He
has worked incredibly hard to achieve this victory. Every day he
gives it all he can and it has paid off. This is just what he needed
before we go to regionals in two weeks. He has put himself in a
position to challenge for the regional title."
The men’s team placed sixth out of nine teams.
The women’s team was led by Megan Herrman, who placed 18th with a
time of 21:30. The team placed seventh out of 10 teams represented.
Coach Herron said: "We were missing several of our top runners
today due to injury, so that really hurt us as far as team scores
are considered. We have to get everyone back and healthy to see what
we can truly do at regionals. This is a very hardworking team. We
just have to shorten the gaps between our No. 1 runner through 5 to
give us a better chance to qualify for nationals. We have two more
weeks to see what we can do."
The cross country team will compete again on Oct. 29 in Danville
for the Region 24 title.
