[October 20, 2010]  The most common side effect of seasonal flu shots in adults has been soreness at the spot where the shot was given, usually lasting less than two days. The soreness is often caused by a person's immune system making protective antibodies to the killed viruses in the vaccine. These antibodies are what allow the body to fight against flu.

HardwareMore rare are symptoms that may include fever, muscle pain and feelings of discomfort or weakness. If these problems occur, they are very uncommon and usually begin soon after the shot and last one to two days.

The combined seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccine is available at the Logan County Department of Public Health for adults 19 years of age and older through walk-in clinic hours Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. or on the HOPE Mobile during its regularly scheduled stops.

The health department continues to wait for the shipment of the seasonal flu vaccine for children 6 months through 18 years of age. More information will be available once the department has received the children's vaccine.

For more information on the seasonal influenza vaccine, call the Logan County Department of Public Health at 217-735-2317
