[October 25, 2010]  The following are reports from Lincoln College sports action over the weekend:

Men's soccer

The Lincoln College men's soccer team (13-1-4) defeated Kaskaskia 11-0 on Saturday in the first round of the Region 24 tournament.

The Lynx move on to the second round against Parkland on Wednesday at 2 p.m. on the campus of Lincoln College.

Volleyball

On Saturday, the Lincoln College volleyball team (19-15) hosted a triangular featuring matches with Millikin University's JV team and Joliet Junior College.

In the first match of the day, LC used a balanced attack and disciplined defense to defeat the Millikin JV squad 25-21, 25-15, 25-20.

Misc

Prior to their afternoon match with Joliet, the Lady Lynx took time to recognize their five sophomore players and the family members who have supported them at LC.

The final match of their careers in the Lincoln Center got off to a rocky start as Joliet jumped out to a 7-1 advantage in set one. Lincoln would side out and eventually cut the lead to two points, but Joliet held on for a 25-23 set one victory. In set two the Lady Lynx regrouped and began working together better as a team, which led to a 25-19 win. LC kept the positive momentum going to take set three 25-22. With a 2-sets-to-1 advantage in their favor, Lincoln could smell victory and would not give JJC any opportunity to get back in the match as the Lynx jumped all over the Wolves to win set four 25-8.

LC coach Mark Tippett commented: "We were sharp in all phases of the game today. I was particularly pleased with the way we attacked the ball and how we were able to match the defensive intensity of the two teams we played. Both teams hustled on defense and made us work hard for every point.

"Our sophomore class has been a very enjoyable group to work with both on and off the court. I am happy that were able to play well today and make their final matches in the Lincoln Center into positive memories."

Lincoln will be in action next on Wednesday as they travel to Springfield for a 6 p.m. match against Benedictine University.

Women's soccer

EAST PEORIA -- On Sunday, the Lincoln College women's soccer team lost to ICC 6-0 in the first round of the Region 24 tournament.

LC coach Amber Angermeier commented: "The ladies battled hard today against a good ICC team. Megan Perry and Brittany Ashburn combined to make some great saves, holding ICC to six goals. I am happy with the effort today."
