[October 26, 2010]  The Quilters at Heart Quilt Guild will have their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 402 Pekin St. There will be a lesson on paper piecing, and the program will include viewing the latest fabric collections from Blank Quilting. For additional information, please contact Stacie Wachtel at staciewachtel@yahoo.com.

There will be a pancake breakfast and bake sale Saturday, Oct. 30, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 110 Broadway in Lincoln. It's all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage and drink. Donations: adults, $6; children, $3. Proceeds go to church and community projects.

Saturday, Oct. 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Christian Child Care is grilling and having a bake sale at the Lincoln IGA. This fundraiser will help purchase some new rugs for the center. They do need volunteers to work, baked goods to sell, and they also ask for lots of hungry customers.

2011 extra-large wall calendars are in at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. Stop in to see Christopher and Lesleigh or call 217-732-2638 for yours.

The Christian Village Fall Festival is Saturday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be games, a firefighters' exhibit, door prizes, car show with the Railsplitter Antique Auto Club, flea market, fall family portraits for $1, craft and bake sale, live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., chili or pork chop meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $5, and an inflatable jumper from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Local blood drives need your help with blood donations for patients in area hospitals. The Central Illinois Community Blood Center is offering opportunities to donate blood in Logan County the first week of November:

  • Monday, Nov. 1: Lincoln Masonic Center, 2022 N. Kickapoo; noon-6 p.m.

  • Thursday, Nov. 4: Elkhart Christian Church, 113 S. Gillett in Elkhart; 3-6 p.m.

Every submission, whether we use it or not, will get your name in the Close Up grab bag. At the end of the month we will draw a name and someone will get $25 just for dropping us an e-mail.
