The daylong tournament at the Lincoln Park District Rec Center will
bring in almost two dozen teams from surrounding areas. The
tournament's organizer, Ryan Curry, who chairs the Logan County
Special Olympics, says helpers are still needed to man the
cafeteria, keep score and keep time on the games.
Curry said help can be for the entire day or part of the day,
depending on a volunteer's schedule.
The event helps Special Olympians learn the value of competing in
a sportsmanlike manner, and although scores are kept, the essence of
the competition is in the efforts of the participants and not
whether they won or lost the game.
In Special Olympics, everyone who competes is a winner.
