[October 30, 2010]  Homework Helper program -- Lincoln Christian University students majoring in education are available to assist students in third through sixth grade with schoolwork and reading skills. This free service is offered in the Lincoln Public Library Annex on Monday through Thursday, 3:30-4:45 pm. Students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis as space is available. No pre-arrangement is required, but children must be 8 years or older. Tutoring for this semester will end Nov. 18. Homework Helper will resume Jan. 10.

Miss Lou's blog

Louella Moreland, youth services librarian, has a blog that can be accessed by linking through the library website. She discusses new books, introduces library programs and takes polls. Tell her your ideas and suggestions. You can also view videos and pictures of library programs.

The Lincoln Public Library is located at 725 Pekin St., with adult nonfiction and reference materials in the historic Carnegie Building. In the Annex Building directly behind are adult fiction and the Youth Services Department. All library events are free and open to the public. Online, visit www.lincolnpubliclibrary.org.

Hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Phone 217-732-8878 for adult services and 217-732-5732 for youth services.

Library on the Go

The library website has a link to a new feature called Library on the Go. This is an online database of items to download to your computer, iPhone or MP3 player. Log in with your Lincoln Public Library District card number and search for books, music or movies to download and enjoy.

Upcoming events

  • Family Reading Night -- In November, the Readers Theatre program will return for children ages 8 and up. Rehearsals are scheduled for Nov. 1, 4, 8 and 15 at 3:30 p.m., and participants need to attend all four rehearsals. The public performance will be Nov. 18 during Family Reading Night from 6 to 7 p.m. Call 732-5732 to sign up to attend.

  • Tuesdays With Santa -- The library will again invite Santa Claus to visit with children in December. The jolly man will be here on Dec. 7 and 14 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sign-up begins Nov. 22 so that Santa can bring enough candy canes.

  • Nov. 25 -- Thanksgiving Day

  • Dec. 24 -- Christmas Eve

  • Dec. 25 -- Christmas Day

  • Jan. 1 -- New Year's Day
