[September 02, 2010]  Six college-bound Illinois 4-H members were recognized on Aug. 14 during the annual 4-H Family Event at the Illinois State Fair as a 4-H Legacy of Leadership Scholar. The winners each received a $1,000 college scholarship. Among those selected was Kristin Bishop, a 10-year member of the Atlanta Town & Country 4-H from Logan County.

Kristen is attending the University of Illinois and majoring in nursing. The scholarship sponsor was Keith Parr of Elmhurst.

Winners have been announced by Angie Barnard, executive director of the Illinois 4-H Foundation. The statewide scholarship program is coordinated by the Illinois 4-H Foundation and the state 4-H office of University of Illinois Extension.

Since its inception in 2003, 43 4-H members have been named a Legacy of Leadership Scholar.

The Illinois 4-H Foundation welcomes other individuals, corporations and organizations as partners in providing additional funds for further scholarship recipients. The scholarship is merit-based and available to 4-H members who are high school seniors or in their last year of 4-H membership.

Illinois 4-H is part of the University of Illinois Extension program that is offered in concert with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus, the federal Extension Service and the United States Department of Agriculture.
