[September 07, 2010]  Lincoln Woman's Club -- GFWC Illinois is joining District 17 clubs in "Operation Santa" socks for the troops again this year.

HardwareOperation Santa is under the auspices of Citizen Support for America's Military. Citizen SAM was able to ship more than 42,400 socks to our troops in 2009.

Lincoln Woman's Club is making socks and collecting items to fill them. Donations may be brought to the Woman's Club building at 230 McLean St. on Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Items needed:

  • DVDs, batteries (AA, AAA, 9 volt)

  • Playing cards, crossword books, Suduko books (small)

  • Hand and foot warmers, lens cleaners (individual packages.)

  • Travel size lotion, pocket tissues, chap stick, lip balm, dental floss, toothpaste, toothbrush, disposable razors, combs, baby wipes

Water

  • Snack food -- individual servings of Crystal Lite packets, tea and cocoa packets, beef jerky, beer nuts, energy bars, packs of gum (foil press-out), breath mints

  • Candy -- Tootsie Rolls, gummy worms, Sweet Tarts, suckers

  • Cards of support -- fronts of Christmas cards to write notes of encouragement on back. These will be placed in socks.

  • Monetary donations for shipping costs. One hundred percent of your tax-deductible gift supports our armed forces. Operation Santa is an all-volunteer group. Make checks payable to Operation Santa, 7131 Knoxville Ave., Suite C, Peoria, IL 61614; or to Lincoln Woman's Club.

If you have a loved one serving overseas, send his or her name, address and how many are serving in his or her company, and they will be included.

Lincoln Woman's Club will take the items to the District 17 meeting on Oct. 9 in Bloomington and they will be delivered to Peoria, where socks will be filled and shipped two weeks before Thanksgiving.

Lincoln Woman’s Club thanks you for your support of this project.
