Lady Lynx V-ball takes pair

[September 11, 2010]  On day one of the inaugural Hampton Inn Volleyball Classic hosted by Lincoln College, the Lady Lynx won both of their matches in straight sets.

The Lady Lynx defeated Robert Morris College of Peoria 25-15, 25-20 and 25-18.

In Lincoln's second match of the evening they got past Elgin Community College 25-17, 25-12, 26-24.

LC (4-8) is tied for first place in their pool with Rend Lake College, who also won two matches on Friday.

The two teams will square off at 9 a.m. Saturday to determine who will play in the championship match.

LC individual stats:

  • Natalia Florczyk: 6 kills, 9 digs, 15 points

  • Emily Fox: 28 set assists, 15 points, 2 aces

  • Alexis Nelson: 22 kills, 10 digs

  • Chelsea Rhoades: 9 kills, 5 blocks

  • Mellisa Turpin: 6 kills, 4 blocks

  • Markeshia Williams: 17 points, 6 digs

LC coach Mark Tippett commented:

"We worked hard to sharpen up our serve receive game and saw a lot of improvement in that area this evening.

"The passers gave our setters a good opportunity to spread the ball around and keep our opponents guessing.

"It was good to see our hitters being aggressive at the net.

"We played with a lot of confidence tonight and can hopefully carry that over into the second day of the tournament."
