[September 16, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- The curtain will close early next year on the hit revival of "West Side Story."

Producers say the musical will play its final performance on Jan. 2, 2011, after 748 regular performances.

The revival of the Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim-Arthur Laurents musical opened on Broadway in March 2009. It won rave reviews and recouped its $14 million investment after only 30 weeks.

Karen Olivo won a featured actress Tony for her performance as Anita, and the production's original cast recording won the 2010 Grammy Award for best musical show album.

A national touring production launches in Detroit in September.
