[September 17, 2010]  Kiel Turpin, 6-foot-11 sophomore at Lincoln College, has committed to play basketball for Florida State and head coach Leonard Hamilton.

Turpin was the MVP of the 2010 NJCAA Division II national tournament and helped guide the Lynx to their first-ever national championship with a record of 30-6. At the national tournament, Turpin averaged 16.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.8 blocks in four games. In the title game, he had a game-high 21 points, in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks.

LC head coach Kirk Whiteman's commented:

"What a great day for Kiel and his family. It's also an amazing story exemplifying the mission of Lincoln College, which is, 'Lincoln College uniquely empowers students to realize their full potential.'

"I thought we could be taking a risk on a player who didn't play many minutes in high school. However, after speaking with Kiel on his visit, I was convinced he was going to be a good player; I just didn't think this soon.

"He still has areas in his game to improve, especially to be a successful contributor at the level of a school like Florida State. However, with what he has accomplished so fast in just one year, the sky is the limit."
