[September 20, 2010]  (AP)  The strong Pacific low pressure trough from the Pacific Northwest was forecast to advance eastward into the Midwest on Monday.

As the system progressed, associated disturbances would trigger precipitation across the northern Intermountain West and the northern Rockies. Active weather was expected to reach the northern high Plains by the afternoon.

Meanwhile, strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperature were forecast to persist across the central Rockies and parts of the central Great Basin. Thus, continued red flag warnings were expected due to enhanced wildfire danger.

In the South, the combination of rich, tropical moisture and weak waves of energy would keep chances of showers and thunderstorms with bands of heavy rainfall over southeastern Texas. These conditions would likely translate into increased flood risks throughout the day.

Elsewhere, a large ridge of high pressure was expected to become the dominant weather feature of the eastern third of the nation. This would translate into calmer weather conditions with fair skies and warm daytime highs through the midweek.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of 26 degrees at Doe Lake, Mich., to a high of 113 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
