ConAgra, Buckle, NYT, Vivus among big movers

[September 22, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE

  • ConAgra Foods Inc., down 80 cents at $21.57

    The food maker said discounting and higher costs pushed quarterly its net income down 12 percent.

  • Buckle Inc., down $2.46 at $26.69

    The teen retailer declared a regular quarterly dividend of 20 cents, but not a bigger one-time dividend as it has in recent years.

  • AutoZone Inc., down $3.12 at $217.02

    The auto parts chain posted double-digit earnings growth in its most recent quarter, but shares fell.

  • Carnival Corp., up 51 cents at $37.57

    The cruise operator raised its earnings guidance for the year after better demand let it boost prices during the third quarter.

  • The New York Times Co., down 47 cents at $7.97

    A UBS analyst slapped the newspaper publisher with a "Sell" rating, saying print media revenues are likely to decline.

NASDAQ

  • Vivus Inc., up 56 cents at $6.74

    The drugmaker said results from a two-year study of its obesity drug Qnexa showed the drug's safety.

  • SanDisk Corp., down $2.29 at $35.47

    A Sterne Agee analyst downgraded the company, citing low prices for the type of computer memory the company provides.

  • Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc., up $3.69 at $53.18

    The airfreight company raised its full-year earnings expectations by about 22 percent.
