[September 22, 2010]  The congregation of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will be celebrating their anniversary this coming Sunday, Sept. 26. A celebration service will be held at 9 a.m. with Pastor Jim Rasmussen, evangelism director of AFLC, as guest speaker. A brunch potluck is scheduled following the services. The congregation is also celebrating that Pastor Mankin and Matt Mason, pianist, have been with the church for one year.


4-H Hollanders had a regular meeting on Sept. 19 at 1:25 p.m. at the New Holland Community Center in New Holland

Leaders: Pam Tibbs, Annie Coers, John Coers

Members present: 14

Visitors present: 4

Business discussed: Election of officers. There was also a discussion about participating in the New Holland Fall Festival on Oct. 23. The club voted to sell caramel apples. The club was also asked to clean up the inside of the Community Center before the festival. The members all voted yes to participate in cleanup at the next meeting.

The next Draw 4 Carroll drawing will take place on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, in the Meeting Room.


On Sunday, Sept. 19, the LCHS Marching Railers, under the direction of David Swaar, competed in the annual Dwight Harvest Days competition and won three first-place awards for the categories of drumline, field performance and color guard. This was their very first competition of the year.

You are invited to cheer on the Marching Railers at upcoming events. They will be competing at the Mount Zion Music Games on Sept. 25, at Olympia on Oct. 2, at Metamora on Oct. 9 and at the Bands of America competition at the Rams Dome in St. Louis on Oct. 16. Stay tuned for further information. Come out and enjoy a wonderful show and support your Lincoln Marching Railers.

Hannah Allen has been named September Senior-of-the-Month at Mount Pulaski High School. Hannah is the daughter of Ralph and Lori Allen of Mount Pulaski.

Hannah has been a straight-A student throughout high school. 

She is currently co-president of National Honor Society and vice president of student council. She has participated on the WYSE team and the Science Olympiad team. She has served as president of Spanish Club and is also a member of Drama Club and Spirit Squad. She was a three-year member of the Toppers volleyball team.

Hannah has been active in the Mount Pulaski High School FFA, where she served last year as chapter reporter. She earned her State FFA Degree in June.  She was an SAE program record book section winner in sheep production in 2009 and 2010.

She has served as secretary and vice president of her 4-H club and was a 4-H record book county medal award winner in animal science.

In June, Hannah was selected as a delegate to Illini Girls State and as a delegate to the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives Youth Day.

She participated in group work camp for two years and was involved through her church as worship band keyboardist and vocalist. She also volunteered as assistant volleyball coach at Zion Lutheran School in Mount Pulaski.

At this time, she plans to attend the University of Illinois in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.

The Senior-of-the-Month program is co-sponsored by Johnson’s Food Center of Mount Pulaski and Mount Pulaski Pharmacy. Monthly winners receive $100 savings bonds and are eligible to compete for the $1,000 Senior-of-the-Year award.
