[April 01, 2011]  DANVILLE -- The Lincoln College softball team split Thursday afternoon in a doubleheader against Danville Area Community College.

In the first game, Shelbi Rentmeister (Clinton) took the loss for the Lynx, pitching all six innings.

The Lynx rattled the bats for only five hits. Danielle Stephenson (Campbell Hill) hit a double in the third inning and drove in the only two runs of the game. Katie Kramer (Romeoville) also hit a double in the fourth.

LC lost 7-2.

In the second game, Jana Wright (Fairfield) picked up a big win 2-1. She allowed six hits, had five strikeouts and walked one.

The Lynx compiled six hits in the second game. Karla Shappell (Coal City) hit a double and so did Danielle Stephenson.

LC coach Crystal Wurth commented: "I was happy to see the girls come back and win the second game. We had two back-to-back outstanding plays at the plate in the bottom of the third inning. Chelsea Rhoades (Rushville) threw out a runner from right field, and then the next play Heathre Depratt (Westville) threw out a runner from center field to end the inning. Blake Walch had a great day behind the plate catching both games. Heathre scored both runs in the second game by aggressively running the bases and taking advantage of every opportunity to advance. It was a very close game and we hung in there; we held the lead and kept it all game."

LC is now 7-11 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

The Lynx take on Lewis and Clark at 1 p.m. Saturday in Lincoln. Sunday the Lynx travel to John Wood in Quincy for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
