LC baseball blasts ICC

[April 04, 2011]  EAST PEORIA -- Lincoln College was rolling on all cylinders as they took down Illinois Central College 11-0 and 13-4. With a combined 24 runs on 27 hits in two games, the Lynx were able to run away with two conference victories on Saturday.

Luke Giddens (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up another win with his complete-game shutout in the first of the two-game set. Giddens mowed down 10 Cougars, allowing only two hits.

Offense started strong for the Lynx in the second inning as they posted a six-run inning. Leaders on the offense were Kenny May (Belleville), 2-3, 2B, RBI; and Xavier Gomez (Willemstad, Curacao), 1-3, 2B, 3 RBIs, three stolen bases.

In the second game, the Lynx compiled 19 hits to score 13 runs in the lopsided victory.

Lynx starting pitcher Steven Sotiropoulos (Belleville) picked up the win in his five innings of work. He gave up two earned runs while striking out six.

The offensive attack was led by May, 3-4, 2B, 3 RBIs; Gomez, 3-5, HR, 2 RBIs; Andy Mosier (Lake Orion, Mich.), 3-5, 3B, 2 RBIs; Manny Acevedo (Orlando, Fla.), 4-4, 2 RBIs, two stolen bases; Miles Quintal (O’Fallon) 2-2, 2B, RBI; and Josh Cook (Yorkville) 2-5, 2 RBIs.

The Lynx (9-10, 5-1 MWAC) were scheduled to play at home Sunday, starting at noon for another two-game set with ICC.
