[April 06, 2011]  LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Jason Winer found small-screen success with TV's "Modern Family," which earned the 38-year-old director an Emmy nomination and a Directors Guild Award.

HardwareNow he's bringing his skills to the big screen with "Arthur," opening Friday.

Winer says the update of the 1981 Dudley Moore classic "combines bawdy humor with genuine emotion," just like "Modern Family." The film stars Russell Brand as Arthur and Helen Mirren as his long-suffering nanny, Hobson.

With his big-screen debut imminent, Winer hopes "to bounce back and forth between features and television ... sort of the way JJ Abrams has."

Winer is already working on a pilot for ABC called "Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23," which stars Krysten Ritter and James Van Der Beek.
