Evelyn Jenkins

[April 06, 2011]  LINCOLN -- Evelyn Jenkins, 83, of Lincoln died on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at 2:15 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, with the Rev. Phillip Blackburn officiating.

Her graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Mrs. Jenkins was secretary to the superintendent of Fairbury-Cropsey and Prairie Central school districts between 1973 and 1989.

She was born on April 26, 1927, at Petit Jean Mountain, Ark. Her parents were Raymond and Grace Deeter Shelby. She married Kenneth Jenkins on April 6, 1946, in Rock Island.

She is survived by one daughter, Marsha (and Lyndall) Dallas of Lincoln; two grandchildren, John Kenneth and Kelsey Elizabeth; two sisters, Pauline Denbo of Reseda, Calif., and Patricia (and Gerald) Tayler of Loveland, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Caroline Shelby of Garden Grove, Calif.; and a brother-in-law, Richard Gauger of Fairbury.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and two sisters.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln and Lincoln Woman's Club.

She volunteered for many years at the Pink Shutter and the Logan County Food Pantry.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation.
