[April 12, 2011]  Lincoln FFA will have a plant sale Wednesday, April 13, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the greenhouse by the ag shop at the high school. This year they have a big selection of vegetables. All four-packs are just $1.

The goal of Project Sticker Shock is to reduce underage drinking by reminding adults it is against the law to purchase alcohol for people under 21.

Project Sticker Shock is an enforcement strategy that targets people over age 21 who purchase alcohol and provide it to minors. Project Sticker Shock consists of young people, with an adult chaperone, placing stickers on multi-packs of alcoholic beverages at liquor stores. The stickers read: "Providing alcohol to a person under 21 is illegal!" This project will engage adults and get them to think twice about providing alcohol to anyone under 21.

The Lincoln Christian University Music Department congratulates Kelsey Foster, winner of the 2010 Eloise McFadden Memorial Scholarship. Foster was chosen by the McFadden family and the LCU Music Department in December of 2010 to receive a $500 memorial scholarship in honor of Eloise McFadden, who died Sept. 2, 2010.

Kelsey is a senior at Lincoln Christian University and will graduate in May with a worship ministry degree, with an emphasis in piano. She has a strong desire to serve the church with her musical talent and training, as did Mrs. McFadden. Kelsey recently completed an internship at Christ's Church of the Valley in Peoria, Ariz., where she interned as part of her worship major. Regardless of what her future holds, she plans to do graduate work in piano performance and continue her worship mission.

Kelsey and her parents, Roger and Teena Foster, both LCU alumni, live in Vermont.

The McFadden family has strong ties to LCU, and the students there hold a special place in their hearts. All of their children attended Lincoln Christian University, as well as three of their grandchildren: Kimberly McFadden King, Kari McFadden Goodman and Jamie McFadden. Daughter-in-law Reva McFadden is currently enrolled in LCU's Hargrove School of Adult & Graduate Studies.

Established in 1944, Lincoln Christian University is a Christian higher education community whose mission is to nurture and equip Christians with a biblical worldview to serve and lead in the church and the world.

Although a few auction pledges and purchases remain to be collected, it looks like the benefit for Bob Shattuck was a great success, according to the fundraising committee. The rough tally of ticket sales and donations plus auction and food sale proceeds indicates they are approximately halfway to their initial fundraising goal. The committee is seeking to raise enough money to pay Bob Shattuck's uninsured treatment costs and assist with his family's living and transportation expenses while he undergoes inpatient treatment at the Total Health Institute in Wheaton.

The committee is heartened and excited by reaching or passing what they now believe to be half of the initial goal. The generosity shown for this extremely worthy cause Saturday night and before lifted all the committee members' spirits and reinforces their belief and faith in the wonderful people they call friends and neighbors in and around Lincoln.

The committee wants to formally express their gratitude to all who participated and gave money, time and labor to assist Bob, his family and the organizing committee. The committee's work goes on as the fight for Bob Shattuck's life continues, but Saturday night's results constitute a giant step toward the ultimate goal of restoring Bob's health and his family's happiness.
