In the first
game, LC rallied on 10 hits, defeating Lewis and Clark
8-5. Both teams picked up one run in the first inning and battled
it out until the sixth, when Heathre Depratt hit a home run to start
the inning. Her teammates followed in her footsteps, scoring three
more runs off four hits in the sixth. The Lynx combined for four
more hits and three runs in the seventh inning.
Offensive leaders for the Lynx were Danielle Stephenson 2-4,
Blake Walch 2-4 and Katie Kramer 3-4.
Jana Wright (6-9) picked up the win, allowing two hits and one
walk while striking out four. Shelbi Rentmeister earned a save.
The Lynx lost the second game 2-1. Stephenson (2-2) took the loss
for LC. Rentmeister and Wright both contributed to the pitching
efforts in the second game. The pitching staff allowed only six hits
and did not walk anyone in the second game.
The Lady Lynx rallied on nine hits. Walch had a strong game,
going 3-3. Stephenson came up with a two-out double in the top of
the seventh inning but was unable to score.
"The girls played amazing today," said coach Crystal Wurth. "Our
pitchers were rotating in and out of both games, trying to mix
things up a bit, and did a fantastic job of keeping the Lewis and
Clark hitters out of it. We tried breaking up their momentum and
just throwing our game. Shelbi and Jana basically outsmarted their
hitters. Our defense was on and we showed up ready to play."
The Lynx now have an overall record of 16-20.
LC takes on Heartland Community College at 1 p.m. Sunday.
